My Background: I am from Benton, KY, which is about as far western as you can go without leaving the state. Benton is your typical small town in the South, with old antique shops that line the court square and a spring holiday named after a potato. At Transy, I was able to find a close-knit campus community, similar to my hometown, while still exploring the greater city of Lexington and all it has to offer.
My Experience at Transylvania University: I came to Transy looking for an academic environment that was going to challenge me, while also fostering a sense of curiosity within my chosen field. I knew I wanted to major in WRC but was initially wary of what I would choose as a minor. The liberal arts curriculum pushed me towards Intro to Religion as my humanities credit, which eventually led to my minor. Through both of those academic outlets, I have been given the opportunity to present at multiple conferences across the country and receive numerous internships at Computer Services Inc., TOPS Marketing Group and Creekmore Marketing. In terms of involvement, I am a part of Greek life, a consultant in the Writing Center and a member of several on-campus leadership honorary organizations. Recently, I have decided to pick up a second minor, Digital Arts and Media, which is a new program that has allowed me to explore more creative academic channels and develop a portfolio that could be used for future endeavors.
My Future Goals: I am currently applying to various graduate schools across the country in programs that study the intersection of rhetoric and digital media. Along with those graduate programs, I am searching for jobs in larger cities in order to gauge my post-grad opportunities. I have many academic and interests that could lead to me working for a marketing or branding firm, digital media corporation, or an online publication (hopefully).
